What is Included/Excluded?

Which Streets are Included?

All residential streets and avenues within the Sunnyside community would have a 30 km/h speed limit.

Which Streets are excluded?

The boundary roads of 10th Street NW, Memorial Drive NW and Centre Street N would be excluded from the 30 km/h zone. While 10th Street, and the Kensington business zone that it runs through, would particularly benefit from a 30 km/h speed limit, the street is a major thoroughfare for downtown commuters. Perhaps in the future, a 30 km/h limit can be extended onto 10th Street, to improve the safety and vibrancy of the popular Kensington pedestrian area.

Why only Sunnyside?

Sunnyside has been chosen as a pilot project for 30 km/h residential limits in Calgary, due to its size and lack of major roads running through it. However, there is no reason other communities could not also move toward a 30 km/h maximum. While more planning would need to be carried out to indicate which roads would be exempt, the benefits of 30 km/h for Sunnyside would transfer to any other Calgary community.
